The Ivory Handle Factory,
incorporated in 1901, produced hardwood handles that were shipped worldwide, in
addition to other wood products. It became Bruner Ivory Handle Factory in 1933,
was sold to a Tennessee company in 1980 (Link), closed in 2004, and burned on September
25, 2012.
My dad worked there in1941 caught fire in 1942 and he helped put out the fire ,went on to be a fireman at Red River Army Depot(I guess with the experience of the Hope fire)
ReplyDeleteI was the night watchman for Links on Salem Indiana for 20 years
DeleteOne of the Old Link Family Mills.
ReplyDeleteI am a descendant of the Bruner family who started the original Bruner Broom Factory in Olinda/Gosfield/Kingsville/Furnace (it had all of those names) in Essex County, Canada. It's fun to see the Bruner name included with the ivory handles made later!
ReplyDeleteI have some new never used handles. I thought it would be interesting to look them up and here's what I found. Everything's made out of plastic and fabric glass. There's nothing like a good Hickory. Handled hammer to hold and do work with they did such a good job
DeleteI have some new old broner. Hickory handles called forest king from the Bruner Ivory Handle Company, Hope. Hey, remind me of a time in this country was good. Great and people took pride in their work I don't know what it is anymore. Technology certainly has given us more opportunities but it's not made us better.
